Tom Kitt, Tony Kushner, Michael John LaChiusa, Stephen Sondheim, Charles Strouse, Maury Yeston and Other Broadway Luminaries Lend Their Talents to Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project

Stellar Cast of Vocalists, Composers, Lyricists and Illustrators Is Joined By World-Class Musicians For Breast Cancer Charity Effort

The producers of Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project have confirmed that the list of participating composers and lyricists now boasts Pulitzer Prize winners Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) Tony Kushner (Angels in America) and Stephen Sondheim (Sunday in the Park With George).

They join a remarkable array of writers who have contributed music and lyrics to the project, including Scott Alan, Wayne Barker, Sean Barry, Susan Birkenhead, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Jeff Bowen, Sammy Cahn, Joshua H. Cohen, Michael Friedman, Jenny Giering, Zina Goldrich, Ricky Ian Gordon, Adam Gwon, Marcy Heisler, Nona Hendryx, Marva Hicks, Rupert Holmes, Timothy Huang, Christopher Jackson, Henry Krieger, Michael John LaChiusa, Dan Lipton, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez, Marisa Michelson, Charles Randolph-Wright, David Rossmer, Bill Russell, Sandy Rustin, Jill Santoriello, Stephen Schwartz, John Patrick Shanley, David Shire, Lucy Simon, Charles Strouse, Sarah Wordsworth, BD Wong, and Maury Yeston.

The project — which incorporates a two-CD, 26 song set; a lavishly-illustrated hardcover book of 17 songs from the album, a corresponding e-book encompassing the entire collection; and a documentary film – gathers many of contemporary musical theater’s greatest composers and vocalists, as well as illustrators, all fo whom have donated their talent to deliver an emotionally affecting set of new lullabies, most of which were written specifically for this project. The project will raise money for respected breast cancer charities such as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Young Survival Coalition. The CDs and book will be released on May 8, 2012.

Grammy-nominated record producer Matt Pierson assembled an illustrious group of musicians for the recording, including famed pianists Fred Hersch and Brad Mehldau, acclaimed guitarist Larry Campbell, renowned multi-instrumentalist Gil Goldstein, celebrated cellist Dave Eggar, and other notable instrumentalists such as Scott Colley, Taylor Eigsti, James Genus, Kevin Hays, Aaron Heick, Bashiri Johnson, Julian Lage, Harish Raghavan, Jody Redhage, Peter Sachon, Tony Scherr, and Kathleen Tagg,

Peabody and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Rick and Out of the Blue Films documented the project from conception to completion. Brief excerpts of the film will be unveiled over the coming weeks on BroadwayWorld.com beginning on Monday, March 19 with the premiere of “This Little World,” written my Michael Friedman and sung by Raul Esparza, with accompaniment by Gil Goldstein and Julian Lage.
